Why I built this

After a severe infection ruined alcohol for me, I spent years searching for something to replace it. That search became TAVU.

What I missed wasn't drinking itself — it was the feeling. Being a bit more uninhibited, taking the edge off in social moments. Especially as someone with social anxiety, I missed the easy-to-talk-to version of myself that showed up after a couple of drinks.

I tried everything — fancy mocktails, adaptogens, all of it — and eventually got tired of sugary water that did nothing for how I actually felt.

Then I found kava. It gave me a buzz without the negative side effects I'd always gotten from alcohol. And I realized this wasn't something only I needed — everyone needs a third option once in a while.

And so TAVU was born.

01 What even is kava?
Kava is a root from the South Pacific. People there have been drinking it in social ceremonies for thousands of years. It promotes relaxation and sociability without impairing your brain — think relaxed and present, not zoned out. TAVU uses beverage-grade Vanuatu Borogu kava — the variety with the longest safety record, and is lab tested for purity. Non-addictive, non-alcoholic, legal in all 50 states.
02 When does TAVU launch?
We're shipping our first batch Summer 2026. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know the exact date as soon as we lock it in — plus early access before it goes live to everyone else.
03 How much will TAVU cost?
We're finalizing pricing now. Waitlist members will be the first to know — and the first to get access to launch pricing.
04 Is kava safe? I read something about livers.
The concerns from the early 2000s came from low-quality preparations using leaves, stems, and peelings — not the root. TAVU uses beverage-grade Vanuatu Borogu lateral roots, extracted in an ISO-certified facility and lab tested for purity and chemotype. This is the variety with thousands of years of safe consumption history. Non-addictive and non-habit-forming. That said — don't combine it with alcohol or sedatives, and talk to your doctor if you're on liver-metabolized medications.
05 Will I be impaired?
You won't be impaired the way alcohol impairs you — no slurred speech, no loss of coordination, no brain fog. Most people describe it as relaxed and socially open, with full mental clarity. You can drive, hold a conversation, do everything you'd normally do. You just feel more at ease.
06 Who is this not for?
People who are pregnant or nursing, under 21, on liver-metabolized medications, or planning to mix it with alcohol. If you're hoping to "get drunk without the alcohol," this isn't that. TAVU is a softer, social buzz — present and warm, not blurry.
